Governor’s Advisory Board on National and Community Service
The Governor's Advisory Board on National and Community Service is an advisory board established by Governor Timothy J. Kaine in Executive Order 66 (July 2008). The Governor's Advisory Board communicates with the Governor and Cabinet Secretaries on national and community service programs in Virginia and on fulfilling the responsibilities and duties prescribed by the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. Among its responsibilities, the Governor's Advisory Board is also charged with:
- Working collaboratively with Virginia Corps and Citizen Corps to promote volunteerism throughout the Commonwealth
- Recognizing and calling attention to the significant service contributions of Virginia citizens and organizations
- Promoting and coordinating State programs offering opportunities for community service
- Increasing the involvement of faith-based organizations in community and national service efforts
