Governor’s Advisory Board on National and Community Service

The Governor's Advisory Board on National and Community Service is an advisory board established by Governor Timothy J. Kaine in Executive Order 66 (July 2008). The Governor's Advisory Board communicates with the Governor and Cabinet Secretaries on national and community service programs in Virginia and on fulfilling the responsibilities and duties prescribed by the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. Among its responsibilities, the Governor's Advisory Board is also charged with:

  • Working collaboratively with Virginia Corps and Citizen Corps to promote volunteerism throughout the Commonwealth
  • Recognizing and calling attention to the significant service contributions of Virginia citizens and organizations
  • Promoting and coordinating State programs offering opportunities for community service
  • Increasing the involvement of faith-based organizations in community and national service efforts

  • Charles Firestone (Virginia Beach) - sales representative, ZEP Manufacturing Company.
  • Julie Grimes (Richmond) - public information officer, Va. Department of Education.
  • R. Marc Johnson (Charlottesville) - director of youth programs, Sorensen Institute.
  • Perry D. Martin (Newport) - assistant director of the service learning center, Virginia Tech.
  • W. Kevin Massengill (Sutherland) - County Administrator, Dinwiddie County.
  • Rumy Mohta (Midlothian) - Chairman, Asian American Society of Central Virginia.
  • Hung Nguyen (Fairfax County) - president, National Congress of Vietnamese Americans.
  • Gabriel G. Rojas (Arlington County) - assistant financial analyst, Bureau of Financial Institutions, State Corporation Commission.
  • Pastor Herbert Scott (Castlewood) - pastor, Morning Star Church.
  • Bobby T. Shockley (Richmond) - social studies department head, Armstrong High School.
  • C. B. Sinclair (Hopewell) - director of labor participation, United Way of Greater Richmond.
  • Jarris Taylor Jr. (Yorktown) - associate director, William R. Harvey Leadership Institute, Hampton University.
  • Sarah L. Walsh (Fredericksburg) - volunteer center director, Rappahannock United Way.
  • Lisë Chandler White (Virginia Beach) - media and communications coordinator, City of Virginia Beach.
