Nominate Someone for VA Board for People with Disabilities Awards

Nominations forms are due Sept. 1 - Oct. 17

Nominations for the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities' annual Community Service Awards are being accepted until October 17. Awards include the Jackie Crews Award for Excellence in Leadership, which offers a $1,000 stipend, and the Outstanding Achievement Award. Easy Access is Now Available

Virginia's New Resource for Seniors and Adults with Disabilities

Virginia Easy Access is a new Web resource for seniors and adults with disabilities. The site provides information about public benefits and programs for individuals and caregivers, allowing them to search for specific services in their communities. The Web site is specifically designed to be user-friendly with accommodations to make it accessible to individuals with disabilities. Virginia Easy Access is also a gateway to VirginiaNavigator, a listing of more than 21,000 programs and services across the Commonwealth powered by SeniorNavigator. Direct customer service for Virginia Easy Access is provided by 2-1-1 Virginia Call Center Operators. Virginians may utilize Easy Access to e-mail questions and receive assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Beginning this fall, Virginia Easy Access will enable citizens to complete a Medicaid application on-line and electronically submit it directly to the appropriate local social services agency for processing. World of Opportunities Expo to be Held in Richmond

Disability Volunteer Handbook Now Available

The Virginia Office on Volunteerism and Community Service has created a valuable resource for anyone involved with the disabled in community service. The Disability Handbook features information on volunteer recruitment of persons with disabilities, so that all individuals have the opportunity to serve their communities. The handbook provides a disability inclusion overview, the philosophy and basics of the Americans with Disability Act, information on how to accommodate volunteers with disabilities, a volunteer manager's guide to disability inclusion, and a listing of Virginia disability resources.
