IV. Calendar
The InterCorps Council approved holding bi-monthly meetings via teleconference. The ICC will meet in person on April 12 in Richmond at the Virginia Conference on Volunteerism and Community Service. There was a discussion about potentially traveling to have another meeting face-to-face; however, issues with reimbursement could arise. Cheryl informed the InterCorps Council that the program directors are responsible for allotting funding for travel. The InterCorps Council members agreed to talk with individual program directors about travel reimbursement. The National Service Days are Join Hands Day and Make a Difference Day. The dates for those Service Days are 05/05/07 and 10/27/07.
V. Member Needs
The members were presented with blog information (www.vaservice.org/go/intercorps). ICC requested grant-writing workshops, service planning training, and an opportunity for experienced AmeriCorps members to assist new members in training about the position.
VI. Next Meeting
The bylaws will be discussed next meeting. The ICC also decided to wait until the next meeting to assign themselves to a committee. There will be a teleconference set up by the Office on Volunteerism and Community Service for the next meeting on March 16.

Welcome ICC members!
Posted by Cheryl.Riley@dss.virginia.gov,
I know that everyone is getting prepared for the holidays, but I just wanted to remind everyone of an upcoming event: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is a day on, not off, holiday that is meant to honor Dr. Martin Luther King by participating in service projects within their communities. There is a great website, http://www.mlkday.org/, that lists all of the different volunteer activities in Virginia. Just click on Resources for Organizations and on the left hand side there should be an area where you can click to locate opportunities to serve. You can also post a volunteer opportunity by clicking on "Register Your Organization", which is located on the left hand side. I hope everyone has a great holiday and I'll talk to everyone at the teleconference on January 19th, 1:30pm.

2. Days of Service
Those planning Service Projects should send write-ups to Cathryne so they can be posted on our website and disseminated to Program Directors in your area. Post project information on the National Youth Service Day website as well: www.ysa.org
3. InterCorps Council Structure
ICC should consist of members from the following:
National Direct
Vista

AmeriCorps
Challenges to working together as a group:
No budget
Geography
(Getting together for conferences/teleconferences generally works better during the work day.)
VCNCS has 20 programs.
Currently, ICC has representation from 4 of those programs.

4. InterCorps Council’s Role
ICC serves as a resource for members with specific problems and to help members network with similar programs. (Brainstorm)
Concerns about the way members are being utilized should be brought to the Commission’s attention.

AmeriCorps program staff are encouraged to participate as advisor's or liaison capacities for the council.
Alumni are especially encouraged to participate.
The VA Commission office encourages programs to recruit members within their corps to serve as a representative to the VAIC council.

A Food Decision
Posted by Cathryne Callaway,
I have been informed that we may go out or order in our supper for our ICC meeting on March 23 and receive reimbursement for that meal. If you feel that you can afford an initial outlay of funds for the meal to be reimbursed approximately 6 weeks later, then we can order pizza or find a restaurant that can accomodate our group for a working supper. However, if it is a hardship to spend the money then we will return to our original plan to solicit food donations. Please post a comment to this blog regarding a food decision. Thank you. See you next week!

- Welcome and Introductions
- Leadership Development Conference
ICC members will meet at 8:45 AM, following breakfast, under a banner reading “ICC” to play a method for introducing themselves and the ICC concept to conference participants during the opening plenary session. Arlene and Kimberly have offered to issue the statement. Evelyn will begin introductions. ICC members will meet at 6:00 for an ICC meeting. The meeting will take place in one of the smaller meeting rooms in the hotel. The location will be announced from the podium during the day. ICC members have just been offered the choice whether to solicit donations for food or go out to a restaurant for which they will be reimbursed. An emailed poll will circulate next week. Kirby has volunteered to solicit donations, if that is the group’s consensus. - Days of Service
Carroll County Reading First will host a volunteer day in April. They will clean up the New River Trail. They are still in the planning phases and Evelyn has offered to help in the planning and execution. Remember to send descriptions of your projects to the Virginia Commission for posting on the website. There are also other websites on which it will be helpful to post. A list will circulate via email. Mountain Empire Community College AmeriCorps members will also host projects but have not yet defined these projects. Kirby offered to act as a contact for Central Virginia’s AmeriCorps members wishing to volunteer with Virginia Naturally. Cathryne and Kirby will discuss this further. It was decided that it would be nice to offer these projects to non-AmeriCorps members as well as members, especially to Alpha Phi Omega, Girl Scouts, fraternities, and sororities. - Member Topics
The teleconference concluded with members discussing member-specific topics.
Excellent conference! See y'all in a few weeks!
