2013 Impact of AmeriCorps in Virginia is $10.6 Million

AmeriCorps*State programs, serving throughout the Commonwealth, served nearly 380,000 hours and recruited more than 11,000 volunteers last year. For every dollar of State of Virginia funds invested, the Office on Volunteerism and Community Service (OVCS) leveraged $21 of non-state funds through AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps*State operates through OCVS and the governor-appointed Advisory Board on National and Community Service to provide grants to public and nonprofit organizations that sponsor service programs throughout Virginia, including faith-based and community organizations, higher education institutions, and public agencies.

In 2013, AmeriCorps*State programs impacted Virginia by more $10.6 million based on a dollar value of volunteer service of $24.64. Since 1994, more than 13,000 Virginia residents have served more than 20 million hours and have qualified for Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards totaling more than $41 million.
