Comfort Zone Camp

Comfort Zone Camp (CZC), a fun and safe place for grieving children, is the nation's largest bereavement camp for children who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. Camps are held in Richmond, Virginia, and are open to all grieving children from across the country. In 2001, the organization was awarded the Governor’s Community Service & Volunteerism Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Group. The organization has grown tremendously in just a few short years and received much recognition for their efforts. Philanthropy by Design

Philanthropy By Design of Virginia, Inc., (PBD/VA) a Virginia non-profit corporation, is a volunteer organization of construction industry professionals and students which provide labor, materials, and design assistance to accomplish the renovation and construction of non-profit community service facilities. Annual Crime Prevention Conference

The 27th Annual Statewide Crime Prevention Conference will be held March 20 - 23, 2005 in Fairfax at the Hyatt Fair Lakes Hotel. The conference is sponsored by the Virginia Crime Prevention Association (VCPA). VCPA officers for 2005/2006 will be elected and the VCPA Annual Crime Prevention Awards will be presented at the crime prevention awards luncheon on Tuesday, March 22. BRAVA Spring Conference

The Blue Ridge Association for Volunteer Administration (BRAVA) and Volunteer Roanoke Valley is presenting their annual spring conference, Volunteer Management: Meeting the Challenges on Wednesday, March 9, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm in Roanoke. Six workshops will be offered on topics such as teambuilding and volunteer recruitment. Registration is $15 for members, $20 for non-members and includes lunch.

Certification in Volunteer Administration

Are you looking for a way to strengthen your professional credibility? If so, now is the time to begin earning the Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) credential, sponsored by the Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA). AVA offers this unique performance-based program to recognize practitioners in the field of volunteer resources management who meet specified standards as measured through a testing process and peer review of a written portfolio.

Grantsmanship National Writing Training Program

Baptist General Convention of Virginia (BGCVA) Educational Ministries is hosting a Grantsmanship National Writing Training Program March 14-18, 2005, in Richmond. The Grantsmanship Training Program is conducted by The Grantsmanship Center (TGCI) and covers all aspects of researching grants, writing grant proposals and negotiating with funding sources. Governor Warner Praises and Encourages Volunteers

In a letter to fellow Virginians, Governor Mark Warner has expressed his appreciation and praise for those who serve as volunteers to "strengthen and improve our communities." The Governor goes on to ask everyone to reach out to persons who may be vulnerable to winter's severe weather and gives examples of current projects and additional ways Virginians can help make communities "safer, more secure, and better prepared for winter."
