VCU’s CreateAthon Assists Nonprofits
More than 40 Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Mass Communications students participated in the first-ever CreateAthon onCampus program, March 13-14. The students devoted a portion of their spring break to assisting 12 local nonprofits with their advertising and marketing needs. Community professionals also volunteered during the 24-hour marathon session, serving as team mentors. VCU is the first university in the country to adapt the CreateAthon program to a college environment. A South Carolina-based advertising agency created the program in 2001. Applications were received from 43 local nonprofits and clients were selected based on both their limited marketing resources and how well their needs fit the project's 24-hour creative window. The next national CreateAthon is scheduled for Sept. 18-19. Visit CreateAthon for information on how your organization can apply.
