Citizen Corps
Local Citizen Corps Councils were created following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, in order to foster collaboration among Federal and local government and civic leaders involved in emergency management and homeland security. Citizen Corps oversees five national programs, which are supported by FEMA: Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Fire Corps, Medical Reserve Corps, USAonWatch/Neighborhood Watch, and Volunteers in Police Service.

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)
A program of Citizen Corps which educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. CERT members are responsible for preparing neighborhoods or workplaces for disasters and assisting others when an event occurs. The program also encompasses TEEN CERT and Campus CERT, which focus on engaging young people in emergency response.

Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL)
The “Small Business Disaster Response and Loan Improvements Act of 2008” (signed June 18, 2008), authorizes private nonprofit (PNP) organizations, regardless of size, eligibility for economic injury disaster loans (EIDL). An EIDL can help your organization meet necessary financial obligations that your nonprofit could have met had the disaster not occurred. It provides relief from economic injury caused directly by the disaster and permits your organization to maintain a reasonable working capital position during the period affected by the disaster.

Volunteer Assistance and Grants for Pedestrian and Child Safety, Education, Health/Human Services, and Emergency/Disaster Relief. Grants fund organizations that support pedestrian and child safety, education, health/human services, and emergency/disaster relief. Funding for pedestrian and child safety supports organizations that work to promote and improve child and pedestrian safety and enhance the safety of transportation systems. Education grants fund organizations that enhance education in the following areas: technology, global economics and trade, cultural diversity, and innovative learning programs. In the area of health and human services, FedEx supports youth development organizations and others that meet basic human needs. The mission of the FedEx Global Citizenship Program is to support the communities the company serves, including international locations, through charitable contributions, in-kind shipping services, and volunteer services of employees.
