The mission of the Virginia State Parks' Youth Corps program is to engage youth, ages 14-17, in conservation and park projects on public lands while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility and respect for the environment. The program's Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) offers adolescents the opportunity to work in a park and forest environment, completing projects that may include trail and campground maintenance, campground construction, building fences, planting trees, noxious weed removal and improving fish habitat. Through their involvement in YCC, participants receive a valuable education in natural resources, public land management and establishing communal goodwill.
